OSU to Build New Tennis Courts

(MIAMI, Okla., October 22, 2010) – The Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents approved plans for OSU to construct 12 outdoor tennis courts in the northwest corner of the OSU athletic village at its regular meeting today in Miami.
Based on current funds available, construction of the 12 U.S. Tennis Association approved outdoor courts for OSU men's and women's tennis is expected to be done in at least two phases. Phase I will consist of six courts with limited amenities and the remaining work will be done as funding is available.
“Our Cowgirl and Cowboy tennis teams desperately need new and dedicated courts and we are pleased to start this project,” said Mike Holder, OSU vice president for athletics. “While an indoor tennis facility is still in our long-term plans, to remain competitive it is imperative we build new outdoor facilities.”
Work on Phase I will start immediately and is expected to be completed by mid-spring 2011. Total cost of the project is budgeted at $2.2 million and all funding will be from private donations. OSU has $1 million to start the project and will phase the project to meet funding.
The courts will be arranged in two north-south rows, each with six side-by-side east-west courts. The courts, which will be post-tensioned concrete surfaces with a suitable court topping, will be restricted to intercollegiate team use only.
