COLUMBIA, Mo. – Eighth-ranked Oklahoma State ran its unbeaten streak to nine matches with a 3-1 win over Missouri Friday night at Walton Stadium.
Carson Michalowski, Krista Lopez and Megan Marchesano each netted goals for the Cowgirls as they improved to 10-1-1 on the season and remained perfect in Big 12 Conference play at 3-0-0.
“We gave a great team performance,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “Missouri is a very tough, physical, athletic team, and we did a great job competing and played very good soccer. Our attacking players were very active and created a lot of really good chances. And I can't say enough about our back line — they were awesome. Missouri puts a lot of pressure on you with what they do, and our defense was outstanding.”
OSU took an early lead just over six minutes into the match when off a scramble in the box Michalowski found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. With the goal, Michalowski became the ninth different Cowgirl to record a goal this season.
AD Franch recorded five saves for the Cowgirls, but Missouri (3-5-2, 1-1-0) was able to put one past the sophomore goalie at the 10:17 mark when a goal by Krista Kruse tied the score at 1-1.
But the match would not remain deadlocked for long.
Just over three minutes after Kruse's goal, OSU converted a scoring attack as Katie Richardson sent a cross to the back post that Lopez headed in for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
The Cowgirls held their one-goal lead until the 58th minute when Marchesano won a scramble for possession in the 18-yard box and delivered her third goal of the season to provide the final 3-1 count.
OSU returns to action Sunday when the Cowgirls host Iowa State in Stillwater. Kickoff is set for noon.
