COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team opened its third fall event of the year Friday, as Malika Rose, Alisa Buslaieva, Leyla Simmons and Allison Burkhartt competed in singles and doubles tournament play at the Air Force Invitational.
Simmons and Burkhartt teamed to take down Eastern Michigan's Xu Chang and Mariya Toncheva, 8-6, in the opening round of the No. 2 double bracket, while Buslaieva and Rose opened the No. 1 doubles with a loss to Wyoming's Kim van Ginkel and Simona Synkova, 9-7.
Simmons carried her success into singles play as she defeated Colorado State's Veronika Wojakowska in three sets. Buslaieva also won her first singles match of the event, knocking off Wyoming's Alexandra Kovacs in straight sets to earn a spot in the semifinal round of the Bravo bracket.
The Cowgirls return to action Saturday, as the all four OSU athletes at the event continue play in the singles and doubles brackets at the Air Force Invitational.
