We Will Remember
January 27, 2010, marks the ninth anniversary of the tragedy that struck the Oklahoma State community forever. A plane carrying 10 members of the Cowboy Basketball travel party crashed just minutes after taking off from Jefferson County airport in Colorado following a game earlier in the day at Boulder. A memorial has been built near the crash site near Strasburg, Colo., as well as in the Southwest Lobby of Gallagher-Iba Arena. OSU will recognize a moment of silence prior to Wednesday nights game against Texas A&M to recognize the lives of the following: Kendall Durfey (radio engineer), Bjorn Fahlstrom (co-pilot), Nate Fleming (player), Will Hancock (media relations director), Daniel Lawson (player), Brian Luinstra (athletic trainer), Denver Mills (pilot), Pat Noyes (director of operations), Bill Teegins (radio analyst), and Jared Weiberg (student manager).
Big Upset
Oklahoma State picked up one of its biggest upsets over a ranked opponent last Saturday when the Cowboys defeated No. 10/9 Kansas State 73-69 on the Wildcats home court. It was the first victory over a top-10 team in a true road game since 1958, when Oklahoma A&M defeated Kansas 52-50 in overtime in Allen Fieldhouse. Oklahoma State has had its share of victories over highly ranked opponents, including a win over No. 6 Oklahoma last season in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinals and a victory over seventh-ranked Texas A&M in the 2007 Big 12 Championship quarterfinals. However, it was the first win in a true road game in 52 years. The Cowboys are now 37-91 28.9 percent) all-time against top-10 teams, including a 4-6 mark vs. teams ranked No. 10 by the Associated Press at game time. It was just OSUs fifth win over a top-10 opponent on the road since the AP poll started during the 1948-49 season.
Anderson Big 12 Player of the Week
Cowboy James Anderson has been named the Big 12 Conferences Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 24. The junior from Junction City, Ark., averaged 28 points and 5.5 rebounds in two victories last week. He recorded 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a 90-78 victory over Colorado. He followed that up with 30 points against the 10th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan, adding three rebounds and three assists. It was his second 30-point game of the year, as he became the only Big 12 player to score 30 or more points twice this season. He has a Big 12-best 13 games with 20 points or more this season. It was the third POW honor of his career.
