Cowgirls Start New Year With Win Over UTPA

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rolled to victory in its first game of the new year, defeating Texas-Pan American, 84-31, in front of 1,208 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Cowgirls (11-2) have now won seven-straight games, while the Lady Broncs dropped to 2-12 with the loss.
OSU scored the first 28 points of the game before UTPA got on the board with 13 minutes remaining in the half. The Cowgirls extended the lead to 40-2 before taking a 53-8 lead into the half.
In the first 20 minutes, OSU shot 47 percent, while limiting the Lady Broncs to a 3-of-25 (12 percent) effort and 19 turnovers.
For the game, the Cowgirls turned UTPA's 28 miscues into 24 points.
Despite playing just 18 minutes, senior Andrea Riley led all scorers with 17 points. The Dallas, Texas native hit six of her 11 shots, including four of her six 3-point attempts. Riley also dished out eight assists to go with three steals.
Four players joined Riley in double figures. Fellow senior Tegan Cunningham chipped in with 16 points, 14 of which came in the first half.
Freshman Toni Young recorded her second career double-double after scoring 12 points and pulling 12 rebounds.
Juniors Precious Robinson and Lakyn Garrison each added 11 points.
The Cowgirls will close out their non-conference schedule on Monday night when they host Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. in Stillwater.
