Anderson Scores 12, USA Defeats Bulgaria

Belgrade, Serbia -- James Anderson was one of five Americans to reach double figure in scoring as Team USA defeated Bulgaria 96-66 here Thursday night in the medal quarterfinals of the World University Games.
Anderson scored 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor, including a three pointer. He was also 3-of-6 from the free-throw line, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists in 15 minutes.
Bulgaria was no match for the Americans as the United States led 24-9 after the first quarter and 46-24 at intermission. Team USA was 16-of-29 from beyond the three-point arc, good for 55 percent, and also outrebounded Bulgaria by 15, 55-40.
Quincy Pondexter was the leading scorer for the U.S., while Da'Sean Butler and Lazar Hayward joined Anderson with 12 points each. Despite averaging nearly 95 points per game as a team, the Americans are very balanced, with no player averaging more than 11 points per contest.
Team USA (6-0) will face Russia (5-1) in the semifinals Friday at 1 p.m. central time. Russia defeated Lithuania 82-73 in Thursday's quarterfinal matchup. The United States defeated Russia 67-63 in an exhibition contest prior to the World University Games.
The other semifinal matchup will put Israel (5-1and a 66-49 winner over Germany) up against Serbia (4-1 with a 68-46 victory over Turkey) Friday at 10:30 a.m. CT.
