Cowboy Tennis Heads West for NCAAs
Oklahoma State's men's tennis team will open NCAA tournament play when it travels to Los Angeles to face Hawaii on Friday. The match is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. (CST). UCLA is hosting the regional.
About the Cowboys
Oklahoma State enters the NCAA tournament with a 14-7 overall record, including a 3-3 mark in Big 12 play. Junior Oleksandr Nedovyesov leads the Cowboys with a 17-3 record and a 5-1 record in Big 12 matches. Anton Bobytskyi is 14-4 and boasts a 3-3 record in Big 12 play. In doubles, Nedovyesov and senior Nathan Byrnes lead the Cowboys at No. 1 doubles. They are 13-3 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 matches. The Cowboy duo won the 2008 and 2009 Big 12 titles at No. 1 doubles.
OSU at the NCAAs
The Cowboys are making their seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Tennis Championships. Each of the last two years, OSU had advanced to the Sweet 16. OSU last hosted a regional in 2007. In those past seven years, the Cowboys have been unable to advance past the Sweet 16. Before 2007, OSU last advanced to the third round in 2003.
NCAA Rewind...2008
OSU advanced to its second-straight Sweet 16 in 2008 after defeating the University of Denver and the University of Tulsa before falling to Southern California in the third round. The Cowboys entered the Tulsa regional as the No. 2 seed, but behind Oleksandr Nedovyesov's win over Arnau Brugues, OSU downed host Tulsa en route to a berth in the Sweet 16.
About the UCLA Regional
Oklahoma State is the No. 2 seed at the UCLA regional. The Cowboys will open up play against Hawaii at 12 p.m. (CST). In the other match, regional-houst UCLA will square off with Southern Illinois. The Bruins are the No. 1 seed at the regional and are the No. 7 national seed.
