Cowboy Netters Roll Into Sweet 16

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Oklahoma State's Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes rolled into the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships on Thursday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Nedovyesov competed in singles in the early afternoon, and then teamed with Byrnes for a first round match in the doubles bracket in the evening.
In singles, No. 2 seed Nedovyesov downed Notre Dame's Brett Helgeson 6-3, 6-4. It is the third time the Alushta, Ukraine, native has beaten Helgeson in his career.
Nedovyesov advances to face Arkansas' Blake Strode. He downed Strode 6-2, 6-4 on March 11.
In the 32-team doubles bracket, the ninth-ranked Cowboy duo advanced into the Sweet 16 with a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Florida State's Jean-Yves Aubone and Vahid Mirzadeh.
Nedovyesov and Byrnes will square off with Wake Forest's Steve Forman and Cory Parr in their second-round match tomorrow.
