Cowboy Tennis Earns Berth in NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team earned its seventh-straight berth in the NCAA Tennis Championships, it was announced by the NCAA office today.

The Cowboys, which are ranked No. 20 in the Campbell/ITA College Tennis rankings that were released yesterday, will face Hawaii on May 8.

"We're very happy to be selected to go to the NCAA Tournament," OSU coach James Wadley said. "We were thinking we'd be going to one of the Texas schools, so we were a bit surprised to go to Los Angeles. The guys are excited to go out there and step up to the challenge and compete."

No. 7 national seed UCLA will host the regional. The Bruins will square off with Southern Illinois.

OSU is one of five Big 12 teams to make the 64-team field. Only seven league schools compete in men's tennis.

Baylor leads the conference as the No. 6 national seed, but will not host its regional. Texas earned the No. 12 national seed. Texas Tech and Texas A&M round out the five Big 12 teams.

Undefeated Virginia earned the No. 1 national seed. The Cavaliers are 29-0 this season.

All early round regional play is conducted at on-campus sites. The round of 16 and all following rounds will be held May 14-25 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
