Cowboy Tennis Falls to Fifth-Ranked Baylor

WACO, Texas – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the fifth-ranked Baylor Bears on Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center.
The Bears improved to 21-5, 6-0 in Big 12 matches and clinched the Big 12 regular season title. No. 24 OSU fell to 13-6, 3-3.
OSU got its lone match win at No. 1 doubles. The No. 17 duo of Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes picked up an 8-4 win over 28th-ranked David Galic and Jordan Rux.
With the victory, Nedovyesov and Byrnes improved their conference record to 5-1 and clinched a share of the Big 12 regular season title at No. 1 doubles. It is the second straight conference championship for the Cowboy duo.
Baylor's Denes Lukacs and Maros Horny bested Mikhail Trukshanin and Anton Bobytskyi 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. The Bears clinched the doubles point with Dominik Mueller and Julian Bley's 8-6 decision over Igor Sobolta and Aleksey Bessonov at No. 3 doubles.
Baylor won all but two of the singles matches in straight sets. Attila Bucko downed Trukshanin 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot to push the score to 2-0. Rux followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Byrnes at the No. 2 slot for Baylor's third point.
Mueller downed Bessonov 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to clinch the match for the Bears.
In the featured match at No. 1 singles, sixth-ranked Lukacs downed OSU's second-ranked Nedovyesov 6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-8. The final set was played in a super tiebreaker format because the match had already been clinched.
Lukacs ran his Big 12 record to 6-0 and clinched the Big 12 title at No. 1 singles. Nedovyesov won the title a year ago.
The Cowboys will return to action Friday at the Big 12 tournament in Norman, Okla. Seedings for the tournament will be finalized this week.
