March 09, 2009 | Cowgirl Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla.ÂOklahoma State's Andrea Riley and Shaunte' Smith were among those honored Monday with the announcement of the Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Awards.
For the second consecutive season, Riley was named a first-team all-conference selection, while Smith was tabbed as an honorable mention pick.
Riley is among the league's statistical leaders in several categories. The Dallas, Texas native currently ranks first in scoring at 23.6 points per game, second in assists with 6.1 per contest and seventh with her 2.0 steals per game. On two occasions this season, Riley has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Riley is also a candidate for the Naismith Trophy and the Wooden Award, which both honor the national player of the year. The junior is among the players in contention for the Nancy Lieberman Award, an honor given to the nation's top point guard, as well.
Smith currently ranks fourth in the league with her 8.4 rebounds per game and is third in the conference in minutes played at 34.6 minutes per game. This season, the Oklahoma City native has joined the program's all-time leaders in several categories. Smith is one of only three players in school history to tally 1,000 points and 800 rebounds during her career and has played in 123 career games, putting her one shy of the top spot on the school's all-time list.
The Cowgirl senior also has six double-doubles on the year, giving her 18 for her career and placing her sixth all time in school history.
OSU will begin postseason play on Thursday in Oklahoma City when it takes on Texas Tech at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the Big 12 Championship.
