OSU vs. Nebraska
March 08, 2009 | Cowgirl Basketball
OSU Head Coach Kurt Budke
On his team's competitiveness
“I don't think anybody out there thought we would come out and score 70 points. I thought we competed. We could have come in and not competed and come in with an idea that we had no chance. We fought hard and gave ourselves a chance to be in this game.”
On Shaunte' Smith
“I thought Shaunte's effort was unbelievable. I always think it is anyway. I thought she went a level above tonight. Having to bring the ball up, then having to rebound and having to post and do all those things tonight. She showed the heart of a champion.”
On someone other than Andrea Riley bringing the ball up the court
“Nebraska didn't just press because Andrea wasn't here tonight. They press all the time. Last year, when we beat Nebraska up there Shaunte' brought the ball up a lot and we thought we could do that again. I thought Ally Clardy did fine. She brought the ball up and got us in our offense.
OSU forward Shaunte' Smith
On playing her last game at Gallagher-Iba Arena
“I'm happy because we played hard. As long as you play hard and play as a team, you can take care of the loss. I just had a great time playing here for four years.”
OSU guard Taylor Hardeman
On playing without Andrea Riley
“Ally did great. I'm going to focus more on her bringing the ball up most of the game and only having two turnovers. It's different because we've played with her for three years. I thought we played hard, things just didn't fall our way.
Nebraska Head Coach Connie Yori
“I thought that was a really great Big 12 game. I thought Oklahoma State played really hard and I thought they really got after it. They were very determined to win the basketball game. They did not give up and handled diversity and so did we. Without Andrea (Riley), it was a different team from certain standpoints. Obviously, her abilities are second to none off the dribble but they had a lot of players that stepped up and really played well from both ends really.”
“I thought our toughness was good when they made the run. We settled down and made some shots. Cory really held us together in the first half, and then both of those guys (Montgomery and Turner) made the shots that we needed in the second half.”
