Cowboy Tennis Loses Nail-Biter to Texas A&M

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team lost a 4-3 heartbreaker match to Texas A&M on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
With the score tied at 3, the match came down to a singles showdown between Austin Krajicek for the No. 14 Aggies (10-5, 2-0 Big 12) and OSU's lone senior, Nathan Byrnes.
Byrnes captured the first set, but was defeated in the next two sets. The final set came down to a tiebreaker that went Krajicek's way to give the Aggies their four needed points.
OSU (7-5, 0-2) got out to hot start in doubles winning all three matches. Cowboy coach James Wadley said it was the best doubles they had played all year. The No. 19 duo of Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Byrnes knocked off third-ranked Krajicek and Conor Pollock 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Anton Bobyskyi and Mikhail Trukshanin scored an 8-2 win over Alexey Grigorov and Colin Hoover at the No. 2 doubles slot. Igor Sobolta and Aleksey Bessonov picked up an 8-5 win over Wil Spencer and Marcus Lunt.
Second-ranked Nedovyesov picked up his second win over a top-20 opponent on the weekend with a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 decision over No. 16 Pollock.
The No. 6 match also went three sets with Hoover picking up a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win over Sobolta.
The Cowboys were able to muster only one more win in singles and that came at No. 5 singles. Bobytskyi downed Lunt 6-1, 6-4.
A&M got straight-set wins from Spencer at No. 3 singles and Grigorov at No. 4 singles.
"We just couldn't get another singles victory," Wadley said. "This was a great college match, it just didn't go our way at the end."
OSU will be back in action Monday against Louisville at the Case Center.
