OSU Tennis Notches Nail-Biter Win Over Vanderbilt

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team squeaked out another close match with a 4-3 win over No. 34 Vanderbilt. It was the fourth time OSU has finished a match at 4-3, and it is has won three of those matches.
“We played tough tennis tonight,” OSU coach James Wadley said. “We've had some different guys coming through for us. Last time it was Bessonov and this time Trukshanin did a great job.”
Mikhail Trukshanin picked up the match-clinching point for the No. 17 Cowboys (4-1) at No. 2 singles. After losing the first set, he battled back to win 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 over Vanderbilt's Nick Cromydas. Trukshanin trailed 5-4 at one time and had to break serve to stay in the match.
The Cowboys were again led in singles by second-ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov at No. 1 singles. He notched a 6-0, 6-1 win to get OSU on the scoreboard. He improved to 4-1 on the young season.
Also scoring points in singles for OSU were Aleksey Bessonov with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Adam Baker at No. 4 singles and Anton Bobytskyi won 6-1, 6-4 over Alex Zotov at No. 5 singles.
The Commodores (4-4), led by the 25th-ranked duo of Baker and Zotov, won the doubles point to open the match. The two downed 39th-ranked Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes of the Cowboys at No. 1 doubles.
“We lost the doubles point again, but we came back and Bessonov played another good match,” Wadley said. “We lost the first set at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Trukshanin did a great job under pressure against their No. 2 guy.”
OSU picked up its only doubles win at No. 3 doubles with Bobytskyi and Bessonov scoring an 8-4 win over Alex DiValerio and Charlie Jones. The Cowboys led at No. 2 doubles but Igor Sobolta and Trukshanin fell to Cromydas and Bryant Salcedo 9-7.
The Cowboys will be back on the court March 9 for their home opener against San Diego.
