Cowboy Tennis Battles For Win Over Sacramento State
February 07, 2009 | Cowboy Tennis
With the match score tied at 3, Cowboy sophomore Bessonov fought to a three-set win over
“He hit two big serves and hit a big backhand down the line. The quality of that tennis in that match was a good as it's going to get. Bessonov did it. He fought off three match points.”
Along with Bessonov's win, OSU's Mikhail Trukshanin and Holden Ching went to three sets at No. 4 singles. Ching downed Trukshanin 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (?-?) Nedovyesov, Bovystyi and Sobolta also scored points for the Cowboys.
The Hornets opening doubles point put the Cowboys in a position where they had to win four singles matches to win the match. However,
“It was tough; it was hard to do against a quality team. Every one battled tough. Every body pulled together and was pulling for Bessonov. It was a very hard fought, good college tennis match. I was really proud of the effort and the fight after being down in the doubles and coming back to win the singles.”
With the win, OSU improved to 2-1.
