OSU vs. Texas Tech
February 22, 2009 | Cowgirl Basketball
Cowgirl Head Coach Kurt Budke
On the game
“The game was just very disappointing. You don't have to look very far when you are 0 -18 at the three point line. We didn't play with the same intensity that we played with at Texas, and why? I don't know. The first thing I told them after the Texas game was Âyou can't ever relax in this league.' We got a great road win, but we haven't accomplished our goals yet. There really isn't an explanation for the way we played tonight.”
“Everything they worked for at Texas they threw away tonight. I hope Texas Tech goes on and gets in the NCAA Tournament. They've had a great year and they deserve to get in. But I thought we had a great opportunity to win at home tonight and we didn't take advantage of it.”
On what is next
“We still have to get to seven. Seven is still the magic number and we have to find a way to get there. I told them after the game, Âif you play like you did at Texas you can get to seven. But if you play like you did tonight then you won't. It's just that simple.' I'm going to show up to work tomorrow and the next day and I'm going to try to get to seven. They need to come in with the same attitude and just do it.”
On the last few minutes
“I think a lot of the frustration really came into play in the last few minutes. There's no question when you are 0-18 at some point in time frustration set in and you hope you're mature enough to not let it go that way at this point in the season. But they are kids, they're human, and they're going make mistakes.”
Texas Tech Head Coach Kristy Curry
On how big the game was
"By far, it's the biggest win we've had. They all, at this point in time in the year, become the biggest one. It was huge. It was a must win; our backs were against the wall if we wanted to go to the NCAA Tournament. I think we knew what was on the line tonight, so give our kids credit."
On Oklahoma State
"I will say this: Oklahoma State still has an opportunity. They can go win at A&M. They've done it before. Hopefully, we'll get eight in and both of us in the end will have had good things happen for us down the stretch."
On Texas Tech
"We've worked so long and so hard to get to this point. To see what they were like back in that dressing room just brought tears to my eyes. So I'm just really proud for the kids. They did a great job tonight."
On the tournament in Oklahoma City
"The folks in Oklahoma City are a class act and that city, that entire committee does a phenomenal job. And it's a class act in the fact that the men and women are both right there. I have been really impressed from my time in the Big 12 and I love Oklahoma City because it's close to home for us too."
Jordan Murphree
On the end of the game
"I think we knew that we did have the lead and I think we knew that we had to get stops and they were going to foul us, so we had to put our free throws in."
On the frustration Texas Techs' defense caused
"I think we trapped Riley coming off the screens and that frustrated her and slowed her down a little bit."
Dominic Seals
On her and Murphree's play
"I know what I have to do to help my team. I have to play hard and Jordan has to play hard. Like coach said, we're the go-to players and if we don't play hard, everybody else won't play hard."
