Cowgirl Softball Splits two in Houston
February 14, 2009 | Cowgirl Softball
After giving up four runs in the first inning and another in the third to the Bobcats, the Cowgirls were only able to score one run in the sixth.
Junior Anna Whiddon started for Oklahoma State and gave up five hits for three earned runs including a two-run homerun by Leah Boatright in the first. Whiddon fell to 2-2 on the season.
The Cowgirls (4-2) lone run of the game came in the sixth when freshman Julie Ward hit a double and was followed by junior Megan Castle who also hit a double and scored Ward from second.
OSU turned it around in the 11:00 game against Indiana, which was moved up from 1:00 because of the weather. Sophomore Sarah Odom was in the circle for the Cowgirls and threw a complete game shutout allowing only three hits, striking out nine and walking two. She improves to 2-0.
The offense came alive as Ward hit a solo home run in the second inning and sophomore Alysia Hamilton hit a two-run homerun in the fourth.
Later that inning, senior Breana Casaus got a hit to left field and scored from first on a double by catcher Sam Heinlein. Hamilton added another RBI in the seventh when she hit a double and scored Taylor Marcum from second.
The Cowgirls will play two games tomorrow in the final day of the tournament. They will play Indiana at 11:00 and make up the game against Houston at 3:00.
