vs. Baylor

OSU Head Coach Kurt Budke
“This one hurts a little more than probably any other so far. I thought the kids executed a game plan as close to perfect as we can do it. It's just hard to win in this league when you shoot 32 percent. I thought effort-wise they were really good and I thought they understood their assignments.”
“As we told them afterwards, you play the seventh-ranked team down to the wire and that last shot was about half in, half out. We can't get our heads down. We have to keep pushing for it. We're a lot closer to being at a higher competitive level today than we were yesterday.”
“I think Baylor is a lot longer than other teams so they don't have to go for fakes right away. They can stay down and keep their position. They do a good job and did a good job on (Andrea) Riley. Before people start jumping on Andrea for shooting so many shots they better look down the list and see how well everybody else shot. It gets to a point where you're going to call her number as a coach because she has finished games before over the other people. I thought Andrea, defensively, was the best she's been all year long tonight”
Senior Shaunte' Smith
“You have to give credit to Baylor. They're a good team and we played our hearts out tonight. We did everything we could and they just came out on top.”
On Riley not making it the free throw line
“I didn't notice that. I don't think it really affected us. We still played good and played better as a team than we have been the past three games. We put everything together and, like coach said, we took all the bad things and turned them into good during this game. It was a tough game.”
Junior Megan Byford
On proving they deserve to be in NCAA Tournament:
“They're one of the top teams in the nation and they do little things right. We definitely showed that we might have had a bad couple of games but we are coming together as a team and we will get it done in the long run.”
“I think that even though this was a loss, it was good for us as a team to show that we're still in this and we're still competing. It would be really easy for a lot of people in our situation to just give up right now and we're definitely not going to do that.”
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
“I wanted to emphasize to our kids that don't let their effort be better because of their conference record and their need to win a ballgame.”
On the defensive play against Andrea Riley
“I thought that when you can play a basketball game and hold Andrea Riley to twenty-something points and not go to the free throw line at all... I just thought our defensive effort on her was tremendous.”
On staying in the game
“It was a game that we very easily could have lost when we got down eight or whatever it was with nine or 10 minutes to go, but I just thought we never showed any panic, we were very poised and I thought our three seniors tonight were big. I thought Rachel (Allison) was playing her way; back in to they typical Rachel player. I thought she just fought in there.”
“What can you say about Jhasmin Player? She hit a big three when we cut it to five and they come out in a zone and she just stroked it right there.”
On being outrebounded
“I'm disappointed we were outrebounded. That's the first time all year we were outrebounded and I am disappointed in that, but I'll take a win over that any day.”
“We won that game because if you look at what you did on the defensive end of the floor you kept them off the foul line, you made sure that any buckets that they got, somebody other than Riley was scoring them and the ones she did get at least had to be difficult shots.”
“I thought our offense was struggling a little bit but at the right time we had seniors make big shots.”
Danielle Wilson
“We felt pretty good about ourselves. We just knew our defense wasn't going to fail us this time, you know just play our defense the way we've played it all season and rebound the ball.”
