BURLINGTON, VT. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team held off a second-half charge by Vermont for a 68-63 win on Sunday afternoon in front of 1,133 fans inside Patrick Gymnasium.
The Cowgirls (6-2) hit their first five shots from the floor and raced out to a 9-0 lead to start the contest. After OSU led for the majority of the half, the Catamounts (7-2) used an 8-0 run to draw even at 31-31 with 27 seconds remaining before heading into the half tied.
OSU opened the second half with six consecutive points, but once again the home team answered, scoring the game's next six points to knot the score again.
After making just three of their 12 3-pointers in the first half, the Catamounts made four of their first six to start the second period. UVM's Tonya Young buried a trey at the 13:48 mark to give the Catamounts their first lead of the game at 47-45 before making another 3-pointer on their next possession to push the margin to five.
UVM took its biggest lead of the game at 54-47 on a layup by May Kotsopoulos with 11:25 remaining.
The Cowgirls made a run of their own over the next 1:32, using 3-pointers by Andrea Riley and Lindsey Keller to tie the game at 54 apiece.
Riley was huge down the stretch, providing five of the squad's last seven points and assisting on the other basket to help seal the win.
The Dallas, Texas native finished the contest with 23 points, nine assists and five rebounds. With her point total, Riley moved into seventh place on the Big 12's all-time scoring list with 2,128 points.
Senior Tegan Cunningham scored 11 points in the second half on her way to a 16-point, nine-rebound performance. Junior Precious Robinson added 14 points and nine boards of her own.
The Cowgirls will return home to face UC Riverside on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
