Cowgirls Head West For WNIT Semis
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (2-0) will make its first road trip of the 2009-10 season on Wednesday at 8 p.m. (CST) when it faces New Mexico (2-0) in Albuquerque in the semifinals of the preseason WNIT. OSU is coming off a 70-64 win over No. 19 Georgia Tech on Sunday, while the Lobos advanced with an 80-64 win over Florida Gulf Coast.
OSU vs. New Mexico ... The Series
OSU and New Mexico have squared off on four occasions. The Lobos hold a 3-1 advantage and have won the last three meetings. The Cowgirls won the first meeting in 1986 in Honolulu, Hawaii. New Mexico is 2-0 at home against OSU, winning 65-44 in 1997 and 56-52 in 2005 during the championship game of the UNM Thanksgiving Classic.
Scouting New Mexico
The Lobos entered the 2009-10 campaign fresh off a 25-11 record and a WNIT appearance last season. New Mexico returns three starters from a year ago, including two-time all-conference pick Amy Beggin. The senior guard is off to a fast start in her final collegiate season, averaging 18.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Sara Halasz (16.0 ppg) and senior Valerie Kast (13.0 ppg) are also averaging double figures scoring wise in the early going for head coach Don Flanagan's squad.. Former OSU president Dr. David Schmidly currently serves as the president at New Mexico.

Andrea Riley stands at 1,977 career points which ranks 8th on the Big 12's all-time scoring list ... Riley is just 23 points shy of joining Clinette Jordan as the only players in school history to reach the 2,000-point plateau ... OSU head coach Kurt Budke's first win as head coach of the Cowgirls came inside The Pit, a 69-68 win over Idaho in the first round of the UNM Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 25, 2005. Budke also made a trip to Albuquerque in his first season as head coach at Louisiana Tech, winning 67-54 during the 2002-03 season.
