Cowgirls Host Georgia Tech in WNIT Action
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (1-0) will take on its first ranked opponent of the year on Sunday at 2 p.m. when it hosts No. 19 Georgia Tech (1-0) in the second round of the preseason WNIT inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowgirls are coming off a 67-58 win over UALR on Friday night in their season opener, while the Yellow Jackets knocked off Winthrop, 63-30, in their WNIT first-round game in Atlanta to advance.
OSU vs. Georgia Tech ... The Series
OSU and Georgia Tech have never met on the hardwood. The Cowgirls are 1-7 all-time against ACC opponents. OSU's lone win against an ACC foe came on March 15, 1989 against Miami (Fla.) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Scouting Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech returns three starters from last year's squad that finished 22-10 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets saw their season come to an end with a 69-50 loss to Oklahoma. Georgia Tech was 5-5 last season in road games. Of the 14 players on the Yellow Jacket roster, 10 are listed at 6-0 or taller. Junior Alex Montgomery is the squad's leading returning scorer and rebounder at 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. The all-conference performer has been sidelined due to injury. Georgia Tech is ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press Poll and was ranked ninth by Athlon Sports and No. 15 by Sporting News in their preseason rankings.
What 2 Watch 4
The Cowgirls have won 34 consecutive home contests against non-conference opponents ... Andrea Riley stands at 1,953 career points which ranks 11th on the Big 12's all-time scoring list ... she trails Baylor's Steffanie Blackmon by two points for the No. 10 spot, Colorado's Jackie McFarland by four points for the ninth spot and Texas A&M's Takia Starks by 24 for the No. 8 spot ... OSU went 2-10 against ranked opponents last year.
Win-Loss Scenario
With a Cowgirl win against Georgia Tech, they would move on to face the winner of Sunday's contest between Florida Gulf Coast and New Mexico. If OSU loses, it would then then drop down into the Consolation Round 3 bracket and play its third and final game of the event on Friday.
