STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma State trio of James Anderson (22 points, career-high 15 rebounds), Marshall Moses (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Obi Muonelo (12 points, 11 boards) paced the Cowboys to an 86-64 season-opening victory over the Seattle Redhawks here Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Las Vegas Invitational.
The game was delayed one hour, 35 minutes when game officials failed to show up before the game. Eventually, the game that was originally scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m. tipped off at 3:10 p.m.
Oklahoma State took a 20-point lead 15 minutes into the game when freshman Fred Gulley hit a layup to make the score 36-16 OSU. However, Seattle went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 12 before another freshman, Roger Franklin, connected on a three-point play to end the scoring drought. The Cowboys took a 17-point lead into the locker room, 43-26.
Oklahoma State led by 27 when Franklin, who left the game after knocking out a tooth going for a rebound in the first half, returned and scored a layup to make the score 59-32. The Duncanville, Texas, native finished with nine points in his Cowboy debut.
The Redhawks cut the lead to 10 one last time when a 17-0 run, highlighted by seven free throws and a pair of treys, made the score 61-51 with five minutes remaining in the game. OSU hit 15 of 22 free throws over the final three minutes as Seattle went into a fouling frenzy.
Sophomore Keiton Page scored 11 points despite suffering an ankle injury the the exhibition opener. Gulley scored five points as the lone freshman starter in the opening game, and frosh Ray Penn added eight points, three assists and no turnovers in his Cowboy debut.
Oklahoma State (1-0) will host Southern on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena in the second round of the Las Vegas Invitational.
