Cowgirls Open With Preseason WNIT
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (0-0) will open its fifth season under head coach Kurt Budke on Friday at 6 p.m. when it hosts UALR (0-0) in the first round of the preseason WNIT. The Cowgirls played their lone exhibition on Tuesday night, a 67-46 win over Washburn in Stillwater.
OSU vs. UALR ... The Series
OSU and UALR have met on three previous occasions with the Trojans coming away victorious in the last two meetings. The Cowgirls took the series debut in 1987 with a 94-68 win in Fayetteville, Ark.
In the lone meeting in Stillwater, UALR came away with a 64-54 win in what was just the fourth game of the Kurt Budke Era for OSU. Last year, the Trojans upset the then-No. 19 Cowgirls, 65-51 in Little Rock.
Scouting UALR
UALR is coming off a record-setting 26-win season and its second-straight postseason WNIT berth. The Trojans also posted a 16-2 mark in conference play to finish first in the Sun Belt West Division for the second consecutive year. UALR has posted 20-win seasons in each of the past three seasons. Head coach Joe Foley's squad returns four starters from a year ago, including forward Chastity Reed. The junior averaged 18.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game a year ago and was a first-team all-league selection. The Trojans led the nation a year ago in turnover margin at +7.09 and were second in turnovers at just 12.4 per contest.

The Cowgirls have won 33 consecutive home contests against non-conference opponents ... as many as 10 players will be making their OSU debuts on Friday night ... OSU is 2-2 in season openers under Budke ... OSU is 25-11 overall in season openers ... Andrea Riley begins the season with 1,926 career points which ranks 12th on the Big 12's all-time scoring list ... she trails Nebraska's Kiera Hardy by four points for 11th place and Baylor's Steffanie Blackmon by 29 points for the No. 10 spot.
Win-Loss Scenario
The Cowgirls' next game depends on the outcome of Friday night's contest. If OSU wins, it will play at home on Sunday at 2 p.m. If the Cowgirls lose to UALR, they would not play again until Nov. 20th and would also play again on the 21st in a "consolation bracket quad" which is a four-team pool. The first two home games of the event are included in OSU's season ticket package.
