TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State men's tennis standout Oleksandr Nedovyesov had his singles run at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Tennis Championships cut short Thursday, as Eric Quigley of Kentucky beat him in the first round of the main draw, 7-5, 6-1.
Nedovyesov, the 2009 Campbell/ITA Player of the Year, entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed, while Quigley reached the main draw after advancing through the qualifying stages of the tournament earlier this week.
At the 2008 ITA All-American Tennis Championships, Nedovyesov finished second after falling in the championship match.
Nedovyesov is still competing in the main draw singles consolation bracket, as well as the main draw doubles section of the tournament, where he and fellow Cowboy Aleksey Bessonov rolled through their first round match against Virginia Tech's Patrick Daciek and Yoann Re, 8-3.
In addition to Nedovyesov's and Bessonov's play in the main draw of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Tennis Championships, several other Oklahoma State athletes competed in the qualifying stages of the tournament earlier this week.
Bessonov, as well as Anton Bobytskyi, Eric West and Trevor Horstmann were eliminated in the qualifying singles bracket, while Bobytskyi and West were also eliminated from the qualifying doubles bracket.
The Cowboys are scheduled to resume play Friday as Nedovyesov and Bessonov continue play in the main draw doubles bracket and Nedovyesov competes in the main draw consolation bracket.
