Cowboys Earn Academic Honors

IRVING, Texas - The Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country teams each landed six athletes on the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country team, the league office announced today.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls had four runners named to first team, which is for nominees with a grade point average of 3.2 or more. Both squads also had two runners named to the second team, for nominees with a GPA of 3.0 to 3.19.
For the Cowboys, senior Ryan Vail earned his fifth academic all-Big 12 honor while working toward his master's degree. Senior Daniel Watts, junior Peter Wood and sophomore Colby Lowe were also named to the first team.
Senior John Kosgei and freshman Ryan Prentice were named to the academic all-Big 12 second team.
The Cowgirls are represented on the first team by senior Leah Schroeder, senior Natalia Kovtun, junior Teran Mixon and sophomore Laura Heaton. It was the second cross country academic all-Big 12 honor for Schroeder.
Senior Tone Hjalmarsen and sophomore Victoria Fratczak represent the Cowgirls on the second team.
