Cowboys Advance at ITA Regionals

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team continued its success at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championships Saturday, as Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Anton Bobytskyi advanced to the main draw singles quarterfinals and Nedovyesov and Aleksey Bessonov advanced to the main draw doubles semifinals.
Nedovyesov, Bessonov and Bobytskyi all won their main draw singles matches in the round of 32 in straight sets. Nedovyesov then took care of Wichita State's Vlad Marinescu, 6-2, 6-2, while Bessonov and Bobytskyi were slated to play one another in the round of 16. After a three set battle, Bobytskyi came out on top, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.
Eric West also competed in the round of 32, where he fell to Minnesota's Tobias Wernet, 6-4, 6-1.
In main draw doubles play, Nedovyesov and Bessonov, as well as Bobytskyi and West rolled through the round of 16, winning 8-2 and 8-3, respectively.
Nedovyesov and Bessonov then had no problem in the quarterfinals, knocking off Nebraska's duo of David Bendheim and Calin Paar, 8-2. Bobytskyi and West, however, fell to Tulsa's Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling, 8-5.
The Cowboys resume play at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championships tomorrow, as Nedovyesov and Bobytskyi compete in the main draw singles quartfinals and Nedovyesov and Bessonov team up for the main draw doubles semifinals.
