Cowboys Have Big Start at ITA Regionals

TULSA, Okla. - The Oklahoma State men's tennis team had a big start at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championships Friday, as the Cowboys advanced four of five athletes in the main draw singles bracket and both teams in main draw doubles play.
In singles play, top-ranked and No. 1-seeded Oleksandr Nedovyesov rolled through the opening round with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Iowa's Tom Mroziewicz. Aleksey Bessonov, Anton Bobytskyi and Eric West also advanced into Saturday's round of 32; recording wins over St. Louis' James McArthur, Wichita State's Jon Orbist and SIU's Brandon Florez, respectively.
The Cowboys also had a successful day in the doubles bracket, as the top-seeded duo of Nedovyesov and Bessonov knocked off Iowa's Reinoud Haal and Patrick Dwyer, 8-4, and Bobytskyi and West teamed up to take down Minnesota's Dino Bilankov and Sebastian Gallego, 8-3.
Trevor Horstmann also competed in the singles main draw, but fell to Tulsa's Philip Stephens in two sets.
Oklahoma State returns to action at the Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championships Saturday in both the singles and doubles main draw brackets.
