STILLWATER, Okla.—The Oklahoma State Equestrian team improved to 2-1 on the season as they defeated the no. 2 Baylor Lady Bears 14-9 at the Animal Science Arena on Saturday.
“You try to get as many victories as you can,” head coach Larry Sanchez said. “We for sure want to win at home; the true test is to go down and beat them in Waco and hopefully that will show where we're at as a team.”
The western team defeated the Lady Bears in convincing fashion, 8-3. In horsemanship seniors Suzanne Randolph and Ashley Koch-Kennedy, junior Courtney Whitacre and freshman Marissa Dalton all picked up victories for the Cowgirls. Whitacre received MVP honors on the day, her second of the season.
In reining the Cowgirls outscored Baylor 4-2 with seniors Leah Kuehn, Rachell Shobe and Molly Tipton and sophomore Caroline Daniels all adding head-to-head victories to the western team's total. Tipton came away with her first MVP of the year.
The hunt seat team won in raw scores after a 6-6 tie. Senior Ally Blais led the team as she won in both disciplines and received two MVPs on the day. With the honors, her MVP count is now four in just three outings. Blais was accompanied in equitation on the flat with head-to-head wins from junior Alice White and sophomore Jordan White.
In equitation over fences Blais and juniors Hannah Beresford and Erin Prutow all picked up victories.
“There were some rides that could use some improvement and there were some that I couldn't be happier with,” Sanchez said. “We will keep working on those things that we need to fix and we'll go forward with the good riding that we have been seeing.”
The Cowgirls will take a week off before they travel to Manhattan to take on the Kansas State Wildcats on Halloween.
