Remember The 10 Run Raises $20,000 For OSU
January 26, 2009 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Executive committee members for the Remember the 10 Run announced today their gift of $20,000 to the Oklahoma State University Counseling Department for the second year in a row.
A presentation ceremony is scheduled for halftime of the OSU vs. Oklahoma men's basketball game tonight in Gallagher Iba Arena. OSU President Burns Hargis and Dr. Suzi Burks will accept the donation on behalf of the counseling department.
According to event founder and chair Kerry Alexander, efficient management of race expenses partnered with various in-kind gifts to the event allowed the group to match last year's contribution amount. The department was selected as beneficiary for the memorial event when planning began for the race back in early 2006.
All of the $20,000 that OSU Counseling Services receives from the Run donation has been designated for use in their grief counseling programs, including staff training and informational brochures.
“We are glad to have a part in providing a stronger support system for those who experience challenges during their time at Oklahoma State,” Alexander said.
Organization of the memorial event began in 2006 to recognize the lives of the 10 men lost in a tragic airplane accident in 2001. In it's second year, the Run participation increased by approximately 250 runners and included more than 300 volunteers.
“That kind of continued enthusiasm and support for this Run encourages us that this will become a lasting tradition at OSU,” Alexander said.
The race committee has already begun preparations for the 2009 Run, which will be held April 18 on the OSU Stillwater campus. More information on the 3rd Annual Remember the 10 Run can be found at the organization's website, www.remembertheten.com.
