Cowgirl Golf To Open Season at NCAA Fall Preview

STILLWATER, Okla.— Oklahoma State's women's golf team will begin its fall season this weekend when it travels to Owings Mills, Md., to compete in the NCAA Fall Preview at Caves Valley Golf Course.
The 54-hole event will take place Sept. 7-8 with 36 holes being contested on Sunday followed by 18 holes Monday morning at the Tom Fazio design, which will serve as the host for the NCAA Championship next spring.
Head coach Laura Matthews' squad enters the year ranked fifth in both the preseason Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll and the Golfweek preseason ranking. OSU is coming off a 2007-08 season that produced three tournament titles, including its first conference championship under Matthews.
OSU will travel a lineup that includes three seniors and two freshmen to the season's inaugural tournament.
Leading the way will be first-team All-American Pernilla Lindberg. The Bollnäs, Sweden native enters her final season ranked ninth nationally.
Joining Lindberg in the lineup will be fellow seniors Amanda Johnson and Karin Kinnerud. Both Johnson and Kinnerud started all 12 events last season for the Cowgirls.
A pair of players will be making their OSU debuts as Caroline Hedwall and Caroline Masson round out the starting five.
Hedwall joins the program after a stellar junior career that includes 10 national championship victories in her native Sweden. Masson arrives in Stillwater with wins at the 2008 German Match Play Championship and the 2008 Spanish Amateur under her belt.
The 15-team field for the Preview is strong with four of the nation's top five squads, Arizona State, Duke, Southern California and OSU, all taking part. Also competing this weekend will be Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Denver, Florida, Georgia, Purdue, Texas A&M, Virginia, Wake Forest and host Georgetown.
