FRANKLIN, Tenn. ÂOklahoma State's women's golf team fired a 286 during the first round of action at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on Friday to stand in first place.
The Cowgirls' 2-under total at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course put them one shot ahead of UCLA and two strokes clear of Southern California.
Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Auburn's Candace Schepperle share the individual lead after each opened play with a 5-under 67.
A trio of OSU players all broke par on Friday at the par-72, 6,217-yard layout as seniors Karin Kinnerud and Pernilla Lindberg were joined by freshman Caroline Masson at 1-under 71 to finish among the group of players tied for sixth place.
Kinnerud made the turn at 1-under after posting a pair of birdies on the front side and tallied birdies on two of her final four holes to finish under par.
Lindberg posted a birdie at the par-5 seventh to get back to even par heading into her back nine where she birdied two of her final five holes to get into red figures for the day.
Masson was steady down the stretch for the Cowgirls, overcoming a double bogey at the seventh with birdies on Nos. 8 and 10. The Gladbeck, Germany native carded eight consecutive pars to finish her round and produce the low round of her brief college career.
Coming off a victory in her first career start, freshman Caroline Hedwall birdied her final two holes to get back to 1-over and finish tied for 23rd place with a 73.
Sophomore Jaclyn Sweeney carded a 76 during her first round of the season to stand in a tie for 46th place.
