Cowgirl Basketball Receives Preseason Recognition

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has been tabbed by a pair of publications with a preseason top-20 national ranking as both Lindy's and Athlon Sports ranked head coach Kurt Budke's squad.
In the Lindy's College Basketball preview, the Cowgirls checked in at No. 12. OSU was joined in the top 25 by four Big 12 schools as Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas and Baylor all made the list.
Individually, junior guard Andrea Riley was named a first-team All-American, joining Maryland guard Kristi Toliver, Connecticut forward Maya Moore, Louisville forward Angel McCoughtry and Oklahoma center Courtney Paris.
According to Athlon Sports, the Cowgirls rank 17th nationally and were joined in the poll by Big 12 schools Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas State.
The magazine also tabbed Riley as an All-America pick, naming her to its second team along with Connecticut's Tina Charles, Ohio State's Jantel Lavender, North Carolina's Rashanda McCants and Rutgers' Epiphanny Prince.
Connecticut was tabbed as the preseason No. 1 by both magazines.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 27-8 campaign as well as their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth a year ago. They will open the 2008-09 season on Nov. 4 with an exhibition contest against East Central.
