Cowgirls Wrap Up Day One At Aggie Fall Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (OSU Athletics ) — Two members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Aggie Fall Invitational with wins at the New Mexico State Tennis Center on Friday.
In the first match of the day, sophomore Nataliya Shatkovskaya cruised past Texas-El-Paso's Amber Brightly in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Shatkovskaya would later defeat Arizona's Jane Huh, 6-3, 6-3, to advance.
After taking the first set by a 6-4 count, sophomore JoAnne Karaitiana dropped her second set against New Mexico State's Laura Boguet losing, 6-7. However, Karaitiana charged back in the third with a 6-3 victory to take the match. Karaitiana continued her good play with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against No. 1 Weronika Bloczynska of UTEP to move on as well.
Shatkovskaya and Karaitiana teamed up in doubles play to post a shutout against Western New Mexico's duo of Emily Lampman and Stephanie Shelton, 8-0.
“We are very proud of the way our girls handled themselves today in their first tournament of the year,” OSU head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. “We had a wonderful day. Our girls fought hard and really impressed us today.”
Shatkovskaya and Karaitiana will play semifinal double and single matches starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Senior Maryna Trachenko will continue play in the consolation bracket, and Galina Semenova has a quarterfinal match in the white bracket.
