August 30, 2008 | Cowgirl Soccer
TULSA, Okla. Â Oklahoma State used a quick-strike offense to score five first-half goals, and the 19th-ranked Cowgirls cruised to a 5-1 win over Oral Roberts Friday night at the ORU Soccer Complex.
OSU netted three goals over the final 3:43 of the opening half to put the game away as coach Colin Carmichael's squad improved to 2-0-0 on the season.
Freshman Kyndall Treadwell led the Cowgirls with two goals and an assist, while junior Kasey Langdon added a goal and an assist.
“It's great to win 5-1 and score a lot of goals, but it wasn't our best performance by any stretch,”
“Overall, we're pleased with the win. This isn't the easiest place for us to come play so it was a good result.”
The Cowgirls got on the scoreboard in the match's 14th minute as Langdon sent a cross into the box to Yolanda Odenyo, who drilled it into the upper-right corner for her first goal of the season.
OSU did not waste any time netting its second goal as, just 72 seconds after Odenyo's score, Langdon took a pass from Jessica Jarell and blasted it past ORU goalkeeper Amanda Wheeler to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles trimmed OSU's lead in half in the 16th minute, getting a goal from 20-yards out by Natalya Manyan.
ORU had an opportunity to tie the score at the 15:42 mark after a foul by the Cowgirls resulted in a penalty kick by Manyan. But OSU goalkeeper Erin Stigler stopped Manyan's shot to keep the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard.
The score remained 2-1 until the 42nd minute when the Cowgirls embarked on a furious rally to close out the half.
With 3:43 left before intermission, Treadwell hit Katie Richardson in stride with a pass just in front of the goal, and
Once again, OSU wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard as just 60 seconds later, Treadwell followed up her assist with a goal at the 2:43 mark to give
OSU's scoring flurry wasn't over. With just 18 seconds remaining until halftime, Treadwell recorded her second goal of the night and third of the season as her shot from 20 yards out found its way past Wheeler and trickled over the line to push the Cowgirls' lead to four.
“You don't really count on scoring like that, but we do have a lot of firepower and when we're clicking it looks really good,”
OSU returns to action Friday in their 2008 home opener against Rice at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
