Cowgirls Compete At Ladies? British Amateur

STILLWATER, Okla. — Four players with Oklahoma State ties recently competed at the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship at North Berwick Golf Club.
Leading the way was incoming freshman Caroline Hedwall, who reached the championship match before falling to Arizona State All-American Anna Nordqvist, 3 and 2.
After opening with a 2 and 1 victory over Ireland's Niamh Kitching, Hedwall tallied another 2 and 1 win in Round Two, this time knocking off Scotland's Emily Ogilvy to advance to the third round. The Loddekopinge, Sweden native then followed with a 4 and 2 triumph against England's Jodi Ewart before claiming a 2-up win over Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Canada to stand as one of the last four competitors in the field.
In her semifinal match, Hedwall faced a familiar foe as she defeated her twin sister, Jacqueline, 4 and 3 to move into the championship match.
Another incoming OSU freshman, Caroline Masson, also enjoyed an impressive run through the match play bracket, advancing to the third round. A native of Gladbeck, Germany, Masson posted a 1-up win over Australia's Kristie Smith and a 4 and 3 victory over Giulia Molinaro of Italy before falling to Purdue All-American Maria Hernandez, 5 and 3, in the round of 16.
The run continued an impressive stretch for Masson. Last spring she captured the Spanish Amateur title and recently added the German Ladies Championship title to her list of accomplishments.
Pernilla Lindberg, who will be a senior this season for the Cowgirls, also advanced to match play before being eliminated in the first round, 3 and 2, by USC All-American Stefanie Endstrasser.
Lindberg's classmate, Karin Kinnerud, also competed in the event, but did not advance to match play.
