June 03, 2008 | Cowboy Tennis
In the ITA's final ranking, Nedovyesov trailed only top-ranked Somdev Devvarman, who closed out his collegiate career last month at Virginia with his second consecutive NCAA title.
Nedovyesov enjoyed a campaign that saw him post a 24-5 mark this spring at the No. 1 singles position while leading OSU to a berth in the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship. He will be the highest ranked returning player next season.
In addition to earning All-America honors from the ITA, Nedovyesov was named the organization's National Player to Watch. The Alushta, Ukraine, native won conference titles in both singles and doubles en route to being named the Big 12 Player of the Year.
The No. 2 ranking is the highest by a Cowboy since Pavel Kudrnac achieved a No. 1 ranking in 1998.
Nedovyesov and teammate Nathan Byrnes also finished the season ranked 17th nationally in doubles after posting a 17-5 record and reaching the first round at the NCAA Championship.
As a team, the Cowboys finished with a 18-10 record and a No. 17 national ranking.
