Nedovyesov Eliminated With Loss at Singles Championships
May 24, 2008 | Cowboy Tennis
The third-ranked Nedovyesov fell to the 11th-ranked Begemann, 6-3, 7-5, in the round of 16 after coasting through the first two rounds of competition.
While disappointed in his own performance, Nedovyesov was very impressed with the play of his opponent.
"First of all, I want to say congratulations to Andre,” said Nedovyesov. “He is a really good player. He played really, really well today. His serve was amazing. I expected to serve better today, but I served really, really bad. I gave him a couple of chances to get close up to the net and play some volleys. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose."
The all-time series between the two players is now tied at 1-1 as Nedovyesov got the best of Begemann in a match played last season.
“We played once last year at the All-American tournament and I won,” said Nedovyesov. “He's a serve and volley guy, and he tries to get close to the net. He has very, very good volleys. He's just serve and volley, serve and volley."
The Cowboy sophomore wraps up the 2008 spring season with a 24-5 record at No. 1 singles. His No. 3 ranking is his highest career ranking. The 2008 ITA National Player to Watch was also named the Big 12 Player of the Year after winning conference titles at No. 1 singles and doubles.
