Cowboys? Nedovyesov Named Top Player in Big 12
April 29, 2008 | Cowboy Tennis
Nedovyesov becomes the second Cowboy to the men's top player award (Pavel Kudrnac, 1997-1998). He is the third-ranked player in the latest ITA/Tila individual rankings.
For the second consecutive year, Nedovyesov won the Big 12 regular season title at No. 1 singles, finishing 5-1 in conference competition, while compiling a 23-5 record in dual matches during the regular season. He also excelled in doubles play, as he and teammate Nathan Byrnes went undefeated (6-0) in conference play to take home the Big 12 title.
“Obviously this is a special kid,” said Cowboy head coach James Wadley. “To accomplish what he has in his first two years is remarkable. He has three conference titles under his belt  two in singles and one in doubles  and he continues to improve.
“His confidence is rising. His forehand is much stronger than it was last year. He will obviously receive a good seed in the NCAA Tournament and we are looking forward to watching him shoot for a national title.”
The awards continue to pile up for Nedovyesov in his first two seasons. Last year as a freshman, he was named Big 12 Player of the Week on three occasions, he was voted Big 12 Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, and was a unanimous all-conference selection in singles and doubles. He was also named the Central Region Rookie of the Year as well as the Player to Watch in 2008.
The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
