Cowboy Netters Eliminated with Loss to Bears

OSU struggled out of the gate, dropping the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, and falling behind 1-0 to a tough Baylor team.
In singles play, OSU freshman Igor Sobolta lost to Jordan Rux, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 to put the Bears up 2-0. At No. 3, sophomore Dmytro Petrov picked up a 6-4, 6-3, win over Baylor's David Galic, but it was not enough.
OSU junior Nathan Byrnes lost in three sets at No. 4 then senior Ivan Puchkarov lost to Baylor's Denes Lukacs at No. 2. With that, the Bears clinched the 4-1 win and advanced to tomorrow's championship match.
“I thought that we competed hard, but we didn't particularly play well in the doubles at No. 2 and No. 3,” said Cowboy head coach James Wadley. “They got the doubles point and beating them in four out of six singles is really tough to do.
“They have the eighth-ranked player and the 11th-ranked player in the nation. They are just a good solid team, so it's very difficult to come back and win four straight in singles. Our guys competed hard and it was a really good match. They were just too good for us today.”
