Caroline Masson Claims Title At Spanish Amateur

STILLWATER, Okla.--Oklahoma State women's golf signee Caroline Masson capped an impressive run this past week by winning the individual title at the Spanish Ladies Open Amateur Championship at the Club de Golf la Reserva.
Masson, who will be a freshman next fall for the Cowgirls, advanced to match play after a runner-up showing during the stroke play portion of the tournament. A native of Gladbeck, Germany, Masson fired rounds of 75 and 68 to earn the No. 2 seed in the match play tree.
After opening with a 3-and-2 win in the first round, Masson cruised to a 4-and-3 victory in Round Two to move into the quarterfinals. Masson picked up a 2-and-1 triumph before posting a 6-and-5 win in the semifinal round to advance to the title match where she capped her run with a 2-and-1 victory over Adriana Zwanck of Spain in the championship match .
Joining Masson in the semifinals was fellow OSU signee Caroline Hedwall. The Loddekopinge, Sweden native also performed well during her two rounds of stroke play, finishing fifth with scores of 78 and 71. Hedwall won her first three matches before falling in the semifinal round. However, she did bounce back with a win in her third-place match to finish at 4-1 in the event.
