Cowgirls Get Back On Track with Win Over Wichita State

STILLWATER, Okla. Â– Oklahoma State's women's tennis team bounced back from back-to-back conference losses with a big 5-2 win over Wichita State at Stillwater's DeBois Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

After the Shockers took the doubles point to go up, 1-0, in the match, OSU battled hard to secure victories in the top five singles matches.

Seniors Iryna Tkachenko and Yawna Allen led the way for the Cowgirls, who improved to 6-5 on the season. Tkachenko lost the first set to WSU's Stephanie Dalmacio, 3-6, but fought back to take the final two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Meanwhile, Allen cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Anna Egorova.

The Cowgirls continued their winning ways as Jo-Anne Karaitiana, Sasha Belova, and Maryna Tkachenko picked up wins at No. 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Cowgirl newcomer Jessica Collins played well, but fell to WSU's Laryssa Ferreira at No. 6 singles.

“I am so proud of the way my girls fought today,” said Cowgirl head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “Everyone play hard and did their part to get this win. We beat a very good team in Wichita State, and I am very excited about the intensity that we played with.”

Oklahoma State will be back in action Friday as they take on Big 12 foe Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., at 1 p.m.
