Cowgirl Basketball Set To Take On Nebraska
February 09, 2008 | Cowgirl Basketball
Cowgirls and Cornhuskers
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (18-3 overall, 6-2 Big 12) will play its third and final road game against Big 12 North competition on Sunday when it travels to Nebraska (17-6, 6-3) for a 1:15 tip inside the Devaney Center.
Game 411
The contest will be televised nationally on ESPN2 as part of the ESPN's “February Frenzy”. Pam Ward and Brenda Van Lengen will call the action for the network, which will provide “whip-around” coverage of eight women's games during the day. Sunday will also be the first of three consecutive “Think Pink” games for the Cowgirls. Put on by the WBCA, the initiative serves to raise cancer awareness. OSU will also “Think Pink” at Texas Tech on Feb. 14 and at home against Iowa State on Feb. 17.
About The Cornhuskers
The Huskers have been formidable at home, posting an 11-1 mark on the season. NU's lone home loss was a two-point setback in its last outing on Jan. 30 against Kansas State. The Huskers enter this weekend's matchup in the midst of a two-game winning streak after victories at Missouri and at Colorado. Preseason All-Big 12 pick Kelsey Griffin leads a trio of players averaging double figures scoring-wise with her 13.9 points per game. Sophomore Yvonne Turner is second in the Big 12 in steals per game to OSU's Andrea Riley with her 2.83 swipes per game.
The Series
Nebraska holds a 30-24 advantage in the all-time series. OSU snapped a five-game losing streak in the series after winning, 63-60, in a down-to-the-wire thriller last season. The Huskers have won the last two meetings in Lincoln, including their 81-56 victory in 2006. OSU last won in Lincoln in February of 2002, posting a 72-66 win. Nebraska has won 15 of the 21 meetings at home in the series.
What 2 Watch 4
OSU has been ranked for 11 consecutive weeks in the Associated Press Poll, surpassing their previous best of 10 consecutive weeks during the 1995-96 season ... Andrea Riley is just 21 points shy of registering the 11th 500-point season in school history and first since 1999-2000 ... the Cowgirls have won nine of their last 10 regular-season games against Big 12 North foes after their win at Colorado on Feb. 2.
