Depleted Cowboys Fall to Ole Miss

At No. 1 doubles, OSU (2-2) picked up a big win over the nation's fourth-ranked doubles team as Cowboy sophomore Oleksandr Nedovyesov and junior Nathan Byrnes defeated Erling Tveit and Jonas Berg, 8-4.
In No. 2 doubles action, OSU's Ivan Puchkarov and Egor Sobolta battled hard, but fell to Matthias Wellermann and Bram ten Berge, 5-8. The Pokes defaulted the No. 3 doubles match due to a depleted roster, giving Ole Miss the doubles point. In singles action, Nedovyesov continued to play well as he picked up a point over the Rebels' Tveit. The Alushta, Ukraine, native was leading 6-3, 1-0 when Tveit forfeited. At No. 2, Puchkarov won the first set over Wellermann, but the Cowboy senior went on to lose the next two sets, falling 6-3, 3-6, 5-7. Byrnes stepped up to No. 3 singles to fill in for sophomore Dmytro Petrov, who was out due to illness. The junior from Melbourne, Australia, played well, but lost to Robbye Poole, 4-6, 5-7. OSU lost at No. 4 through No.6 as they had to default at No. 6, because of the short roster. “We played a very good team today,” said Cowboy head coach James Wadley. “Obviously, we were playing with a short roster, but I thought our guys fought hard. The highlight of the day came at No.1 doubles, and I was impressed with the effort at No. 2 doubles.” The Cowboys will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 9, as they take on Michigan State at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa. #19 Oklahoma State 1, #5 Ole Miss 6 Tulsa, Okla.
