Cowgirl Basketball Ready To Take On Texas
February 21, 2008 | Cowgirl Basketball
Cowgirls and Longhorns
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (20-4 overall, 8-3 Big 12) will look to bounce back from its first loss in five outings on Wednesday night when it hosts Texas (16-9, 4-7) at 7 p.m. in Stillwater. The Cowgirls are coming off a 62-57 home loss on Sunday at the hands of Iowa State, while Texas suffered a 67-52 setback over the weekend at Colorado.
Game 411
The Cowgirls will be aiming for their 21st victory of the season, which would mark the third-highest total in school history. OSU won 27 games during the 1990-91 campaign and 23 games during the 1992-93 season. OSU will also be in search of its ninth league win, which would be one win shy of matching its previous best of 10 Big 12 wins in 1997-98.
About Texas
Texas comes to town having lost four of its last five games after its loss at Colorado on Saturday. The Longhorns are also in search of their first Big 12 road win (0-5) under first-year head coach Gail Goestenkors. A pair of players are averaging double figures in the scoring column as Brittainey Raven and Ashley Lindsey check in at 15.4 and 11.5 points per game, respectively. Raven ranks seventh among the league's leading scorers. Lindsey is also the squad's top rebounder at 7.0 boards per outing. Carla Cortijo ranks among the Big 12 leaders in assists with 4.8 (3rd) per game.
The Series
Texas leads the overall series by a 21-5 count after its 70-63 win on Jan. 23 in Austin. The Cowgirls snapped a 13-game losing streak in the series last year with their 77-58 win in Stillwater before their 64-52 win in Austin. The Cowgirls also swept the season series in 1998 and their only other win was a 71-69 triumph at home in 2000. OSU is 3-8 overall at home in the series against the Longhorns
What 2 Watch 4
A win would be the 400th for head coach Kurt Budke in his career ... a win would be OSU's 13th home win of the season, matching the school's all-time single-season mark ... Andrea Riley's 542 points are six points shy of eighth place on the school's single-season chart ... Taylor Hardeman's 105 career 3-pointers are six shy of second place on OSU's all-time chart.
