Cowgirls Head To Lubbock To Take On Texas Tech
February 13, 2008 | Cowgirl Basketball
Cowgirls and Lady Raiders
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (19-3 overall, 7-2 Big 12) will look to tally its second consecutive 20-win season on Thursday when it travels to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech (14-9, 2-7). OSU is riding the momentum of a three-game winning streak after knocking off Nebraska on Sunday, while the Lady Raiders have lost three straight after falling at Baylor on Saturday.
Game 411
Thursday will be the second of three straight “Think Pink” games for the Cowgirls. Put on by the WBCA, the initiative serves to raise cancer awareness. OSU will also “Think Pink” at home against Iowa State on Feb. 17. A win would give OSU consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time since winning 23 games in 1992-93 and 20 games in 1993-94.
About Texas Tech
Texas Tech enters Thursday's matchup in the midst of a three-game losing streak after back-to-back road losses at Iowa State and Baylor. The Lady Raiders opened the season on a nine-game winning streak, but have won just twice in their last 10 outings. The Lady Raiders are 10-3 at home this season with both of their Big 12 wins (Texas, Colorado) coming inside United Spirit Arena. Dominic Seals currently paces the squad in both scoring and rebounding at 13.7 points and 8.8 boards per game. Seals' rebounding total currently ranks second in the league.
The Series
Texas Tech has won seven consecutive in the series with OSU and holds a 25-12 advantage overall. The Cowgirls last won in the series on Jan. 24, 2004, an 88-87 double overtime contest in Stillwater. Tech has won 12 of the 15 meetings in Lubbock, including the last 10. OSU last won in Lubbock on Jan. 8, 1997, claiming a 78-56 victory.
What 2 Watch 4
Head coach Kurt Budke will be looking for his first win in six tries as OSU's head coach against Texas Tech ... Budke's first win as a Division I head coach came against Tech, an 85-76 victory in his debut at Louisiana Tech in 2002 ... a win would be No. 20 overall and No. 8 in league play for the Cowgirls this season, matching both of OSU's totals from a year ago ... OSU has logged eight 20-win seasons in the program's history.
