Cowboys Prepare for Nationals With Two-Match Sweep

TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team (3-2) swept two early week matches at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center in preparation for its upcoming trip to the ITA National Indoor Tournament.
On Monday, the Cowboys defeated Oral Roberts, 5-1, behind a strong effort from sophomore Oleksandr Nedovyesov. The Alushta, Ukraine, native teamed with junior Nathan Byrnes to pick up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Nedovyesov then defeated Alexander Dargel, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 1 singles action.
Cowboy senior Ivan Puchkarov was strong as he picked up a solid 6-2, 6-2, win over Oleksandr Kotsuik at No. 2 singles. In doubles play, he and sophomore Dmytro Petrov defeated Dennis Troyke and Clemons Geerken, 8-2.
In Tuesday's action, OSU defeated Seminole State, 6-1, as they got another strong outing from Puchkarov. He and Petrov led the way in doubles play with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. In No. 2 singles action, the Kiev, Ukraine, native dominated his way to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The only points that OSU gave up in either match were the default points for forfeiting at No. 6 singles due to a depleted roster.
Cowboy assistant coach Yevgen Bondarchuk was pleased with the way his team played in its final action before traveling to Seattle, Wash., for indoor nationals this weekend.
“I am pleased with the way our guys played,” said Bondarchuk. “We are excited to get to Seattle and play some of the nation's best teams.”
