Vs. TCU
Cowgirl Head Coach Kurt Budke
"I'm very proud of the kids. We all knew this was a big game. In my opinion, TCU is one of the top 10 teams in the country. This is the best team we've played. He can cause all kinds of match-up problems, they can go big and go small, they shoot it better than any team we've played. And somehow, some way we found a way to get it done today. That's what we've been missing to this point. I think we showed more energy today than we have all year long and there was a little more passion out there, not just from the players but from the coaches as well. I'm very proud of the win."
"We knew offensive rebounds were a key stat in this game. If you give them another chance, they're so good that they're going to find a way to score. One of the reasons they probably don't get a lot of offensive rebounds is because they score every time. They're that good."
"I think the one stat that has to come up is to shoot the three better and we have the ability to do it. We thought before the game that we would have to have a combination of seven three's from our two and three players. Taylor (Hardeman) had four, Kristin (Hernandez) had three and Tegan (Cunningham) had one. So we ended up with eight. We really thought we would have to have that kind of number to beat this team because they score so well."
Senior Taylor Hardeman
On the game:
"I think we did a fantastic job tonight. That's the best I've felt about a game since the NCAA Tournament. They're a very good team and very physical. But we like to play those kind of team and we're glad we got a shot at them."
Junior Andrea Riley
On team chemistry:
"I think we've taken a big step. Last week when we played Arkansas-Little Rock you could tell we weren't really in sync and didn't really know how to play together. I think we took a step tonight. We've only played six games so it's going to come."
On similarity to a conference game:
"That's what we're going to have to do and bring in the Big 12 every single night. This was a big test for us tonight and I think this will be the change in our season."
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening Statement:
“It was a hard fought loss. We had our chances down the stretch. They came prepared. We had two possessions at 81-80, maybe three. So, we definitely had our chances. We had a turnover and two decent looks at the basket and a missed rebound at the end would have given us another chance. We just did not make enough plays. Cunningham for them was huge in the second half. I thought she hit some big shots. Riley obviously does everything for them. She hit some big ones as well.”
On poor offensive rebounding:
“We have been a poor rebounding team all year. It is really hurting us. They had 22 more shots at the basket than us. Generally, we flip that with some turnovers, but we had way too many turnovers today. We had 18. Our lack of ability to get second and third opportunities is really hurting us right now.”
