Cowgirl Basketball Rolls To 126-60 Win Over Oklahoma Flyers
November 08, 2008 | Cowgirl Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. Oklahoma State's women's basketball team wrapped up exhibition play on Saturday afternoon with a 126-60 win over the Oklahoma Flyers in front of 2,410 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
“I thought it was better than the last one. I thought the intensity was better from start to finish,” Cowgirl head coach Kurt Budke said. “There were some dead spots, but sometimes when you get in a track meet, there will be some dead spots. Overall, I am pretty pleased.”
Like their opener against East Central on Tuesday, the 14th-ranked Cowgirls got out of the gate quickly, scoring the game's first 10 points. The Flyers answered with a five-point spurt before OSU reeled off the next 26 points.
The Flyers went nearly nine minutes during one stretch in the first half without a field goal and were unable to recover as the Cowgirls charged out to a 61-25 advantage at the break.
Overall, OSU forced 30 turnovers and held the Flyers to a 30 percent shooting effort from the floor.
The Cowgirls spread the offensive wealth en route to the 126-point outburst, as all 11 players suited up scored. Six players finished in double figures, while three players finished with double-figure rebounding totals.
Despite playing just 20 minutes, junior Andrea Riley led all scorers with 27 points on an 11-of-17 effort from the floor. The Dallas, Texas native also had two assists and six steals on the day.
Seniors Taylor Hardeman and Shaunte' Smith added 19 and 17 points, respectively, to round out the OSU starters in double figures.
Fellow senior Shyvon Spears grabbed a game-high 15 boards to go along with four assists and a pair of steals.
The Cowgirl bench enjoyed an equally productive day with a pair of reserves recording double-doubles. Junior Tegan Cunningham had a 13-point, 10-rebound outing, while sophomore Kristin Hernandez scored 14 points and pulled 12 rebounds on the day.
Freshman Kelsey Hatcher also found her way into double figures, scoring 14 points behind a 3-of-4 effort from the 3-point line.
Kesha Watson scored a team-high 19 points for the Flyers.
The Cowgirls will tip off the regular season on Nov. 14 when they travel to Durham, N.C. to battle No. 8 Duke.
