November 07, 2008 | Cowboy Tennis
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Â Oklahoma State's top-ranked men's tennis player, Oleksandr Nedovyesov, looked impressive in the first round of the 2008 ITA Indoor National Championships at the University of Virginia with his first round defeat of Louisville's Austin Childs.
The junior from Alushta, Ukraine, struggled early in the first set but roared back at the end to earn a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
“He played very well at the end of the first set and throughout the second set,” OSU coach James Wadley said. “Hopefully, he can carry his great play into Friday's tough match.”
Nedovyesov and teammate Nathan Byrnes were unable to upset the fourth ranked doubles tandem Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge of Ole Miss. The Cowboy duo fought hard but eventually fell 9-7.
Nedovyesov will face Wake Forest's Cory Parr on Friday afternoon. Parr, a member of the number one ranked doubles team, handily defeated Chris Clayton of Harvard, 6-4, 6-0, in the first round of singles play.
