Cowgirls Continue Homestand Against New Orleans
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (2-1) will play its third consecutive home game on Wednesday when it hosts New Orleans (2-1) at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The No. 18 Cowgirls have won two-straight contests after Saturday's 91-45 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, while the Lady Privateers will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a 58-46 setback at Samford on Friday. After Wednesday's contest, the Cowgirls will not take the floor again until a Dec. 6 contest at Arkansas-Little Rock.
OSU vs. New Orleans ... The Series
Wednesday's contest will be the first meeting between the two schools. OSU is 18-4 all time against members of the Sun Belt Conference.
Scouting New Orleans
New Orleans opened the 2008-09 campaign with a pair of home victories against McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana. The Lady Privateers defeated McNeese, 70-65, four days prior to OSU's 89-56 win over the Cowgirls. Jada Frazier is the lone player averaging double figures in the scoring column with her 10 points per contest. Ashley Gorsh checks in as the squad's leading rebounder at 7.7 per game. UNO is in its fifth season under head coach Amy Champion, who has compiled a career record of 29-90. The Lady Privateers are 6-7 all time against Big 12 competition. UNO's next contest will also come against a Big 12 school on Nov. 30 at Kansas.
What 2 Watch 4
The Cowgirls have won 25 consecutive non-conference home games ... Andrea Riley is 35 points shy of becoming the ninth player in school history to eclipse the 1,300-point mark for her career ... Shaunte' Smith is 13 rebounds away from becoming the sixth player in school history to reach the 700-rebound plateau ... Smith is also tied with Kathy Schulz for sixth place on the school's all-time double-double chart with 14 ... Wednesday could potentially mark the debut of freshman Melinda Mercado, who went through her first full practice on Sunday after joining the squad at the completion of the OSU soccer season.
